Expressive Go is a free communication (AAC) app for iPad and iPhone, made by Smarty Ears LLC. This page explains what happens to information when you use it, and the terms for using it.
Our other apps and the smartyearsapps.com website are covered by the Smarty Ears privacy policy, and Smarty Ears Online has its own policy. The promises are the same in all of them.
The boards, folders and tiles you make, the words you add, the pictures you take or choose for tiles, and your settings are all kept on your iPad or iPhone, inside the app. They aren't sent to us or to anyone else, and we can't see them. Expressive Go has no accounts and no sign-in.
When a message is spoken, it uses the voices built into your device. On the App Store, Expressive Go says "Data Not Collected".
Expressive Go asks to use your camera or your photos only when you add your own picture to a tile. You can say no and still use everything else, and you can change your answer at any time in your device's Settings. The pictures you add stay in the app on your device.
When you back up your boards in Expressive Go, the app makes a backup file and you choose where it goes: for example Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop or email. We never receive it. To restore, you choose that file in the app.
If you back up your device to iCloud or to a computer, that backup can include Expressive Go's boards, like your other apps. It belongs to your Apple account; we can't see it.
Expressive Go works without the internet. A few things in the grown-ups' area, behind the grown-up check, go online when you open them:
When you email us from the app, your own email app opens with a message to [email protected]. It already includes the app's version, your device model and its iOS version, so we can work out what's wrong. You see the message before you send it, and you can remove these details. We use your email only to help you, and we'll delete it if you ask.
Expressive Go is free. It has no advertising, no in-app purchases and no tracking, and it doesn't use analytics or crash-reporting services. We never sell personal information, to anyone.
If you have chosen in your device's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us crash reports and usage statistics that don't identify you. You can turn this off in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
Many people who use Expressive Go are children, together with a parent, teacher or therapist. Expressive Go doesn't collect personal information from children: what's entered stays on the device, and there are no accounts, ads or tracking.
The grown-ups' area (help videos, Boards Near You, links out of the app and emailing us) and backups are behind a grown-up check, so a child can't reach them alone. If you think a child has sent us personal information, write to [email protected] and we'll delete it.
Delete a tile, folder or picture inside the app, or delete the app to remove everything it stored on that device. Copies in your own backups stay until you delete or replace those backups.
When we change this page, we update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll say so here before it takes effect.

The terms for using Expressive Go.
You get Expressive Go from Apple's App Store, so Apple's Standard License Agreement for apps applies to it. The terms below add to it. By downloading or using Expressive Go, you agree to both. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
Smarty Ears gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Expressive Go on the Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store's rules allow. You can use it for yourself or with the people you support, at home, at school or in therapy. Expressive Go is free.
Expressive Go and its content, including its symbols, pictures, words, sounds and design, belong to Smarty Ears or the companies that license them to us, and are protected by copyright and other laws. The license lets you use them in the app; it doesn't give you ownership of them.
The boards, words and pictures you add are yours.
Expressive Go is a communication tool. It isn't a medical device, and it doesn't diagnose or treat any condition. For advice about a person's communication, talk with a speech-language pathologist or another qualified professional.
We work hard to make Expressive Go reliable, but we provide it "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't promise that it will always work without errors or interruptions. Keep backups of the boards that matter to you.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Smarty Ears isn't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of the app. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
This agreement is between you and Smarty Ears, not Apple. Smarty Ears, not Apple, is responsible for Expressive Go, its content, its support and maintenance, and for answering any claims about it. Apple and its subsidiaries can enforce this agreement as third-party beneficiaries.
Questions or claims about the app go to Smarty Ears: [email protected], Smarty Ears LLC, 3839 McKinney Avenue, Suite 155-2129, Dallas, Texas 75204-3839, United States. (214) 253-9196.
The license lasts until you or we end it. You can end it by deleting the app. It ends on its own if you break these terms. This agreement is governed by the laws of the United States and of the State of Texas.
