Smarty Ears apps is proud to deliver the answer for Spanish speaking individuals who are working on correct speech production. Created by a trilingual certified speech-language pathologist, Spanish Artik is a powerful, easy-to-use app.
No more “re-purposing” apps to make them work, Spanish Artik is designed specifically for Spanish speakers! The easy-to-navigate menus make Spanish Artik an extremely user-friendly app.
With Spanish Artik, speech therapists, teachers, and parents are able to record student’s voices, save data over time, and easily track progress! With both words and phrases, Spanish Artik provides an easy way to increase difficulty as needed.
Spanish Artik can be set up to allow data to be collected on multiple utterances of each word, which provides maximum therapy benefit without losing the ease in data collection (Edeal & Gildersleeve-Neumann, 2011). Alternately, Spanish Artik can be set to automatically move forward with a single tap to allow maximum word exposure.

Spanish Artik provides words and images for all the Spanish consonants in a choice of appropriate initial, medial, or final positions.
The user can choose one sound or multiple sounds as the target for each learning session!

Two Levels of Practice
With over 450 images presented at both the word and phrase level, there are over 900 stimulus items available making Spanish Artik the go-to app for speech-therapy!
Perfect for single users or as many as 6 players at a time!
A single- or multi-player app, Spanish Artik was designed for both speech-language pathologists and parents. Whether working with a single-player or up to 6-players, each player works on his or her specific sounds.

After the players have been selected, a pop-up window will display prompting the adult to select the specific phoneme(s) to be targeted. Once the phoneme has been selected, a second pop-up window displays prompting the adult to select the desired position of the phoneme within a word.

No more searching for appropriate words in word lists!
Over 450 carefully selected images!

When first starting the app, the user is asked to select the language to be used on the buttons and in the progress notes.
This does not affect the sound selection, words, or images within the app and can be changed in the settings menu on the main page.

Two Levels of Practice
From the main page, a tap on the “settings” gear in the bottom right-hand corner will bring up the customization screen.

spanish-artik-img10
The language in the settings area is determined by the Language settings at the bottom of the pop-up. Simply tap on this area to change languages.
spanish-artik-img11

The settings within Spanish Artik allow the adult to toggle on/off the transition sounds, the written word displayed with each picture, random selection of images within a sound group, and moving to the next word automatically.
The default position for each of these is “on” or green. Research suggests directing student attention to the printed word may increase the metalinguistic focus of an activity and help with phonological awareness (Justice & Ezell, 2004; Hodson, 2007).
Editing Word Lists
spanish-artik-img12
Once the target phoneme(s) have been selected, Spanish Artik presents a list of words generated by the phonemes selected. This allows the opportunity to deselect any words that are not desired for a particular client.
Simply tap on the word to deselect/select.
A green check mark means the word is selected and will be used as a target.

Editing Word Lists
Spanish Artik keeps data for each session. To view progress, simply tap on the “reports” button from the main page and select the desired student.
From there, a pop-up window will display with the dates of each session, the target phoneme, and percent accuracy.
Tapping on “NOTES” allows the individual to see any notes taken during the sessions.
“RECORDINGS” provides the ability to playback any recorded student utterances.

Importing Players from the Therapy Report Center
Found at the bottom right-hand corner of the New Session screen, is the Import button. This button allows an individual to open the Therapy Report Center (a free Smarty Ears App designed to make data collection and caseload management easier) and import players. Simply follow the on-screen directions to import as few as one or many players at a time.
Once players are entered into the Therapy Report Center they can be imported into any Smarty Ears App with the tap of a button.
Now it is very easy to set up new apps with entire caseloads!
Using the App

spanish-artik-img27

When the session is complete, a tap and hold to the “Done” button in the Control Area will complete the session.
Note: It is necessary to touch and HOLD the button until the yellow circle is complete. Releasing the button before the circle is complete will cancel the action and return to the images screen.
The screen will automatically move to the “Reports” area of the app. From here, simply tap on an individual player’s icon to display the student’s report card.
